Angelo "won" the 1985 Golf Digest event with a score of 257 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, in front of an international audience. Taking an infamous 66 on the 17th "island" hole and finally being forced to putt up the cartpath (which then became known as "Angelo's Alley"), Spagnolo was presented with a green-and-white checkered jacket, in sharp contrast to the green jacket award to winners of The Masters.
